ELECTRICITY ACT 1945—REGULATION
(Relating to training in live high voltage overhead line work)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Electricity Act 1945, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Electricity (Workers’ Safety) Regulation 1992 is amended by inserting at the end of Part 5 of Schedule 1 the words “South East Queensland Electricity Corporation”.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Regulation is to provide that the training provided by the South East Queensland Electricity Corporation is appropriate for certain work on live high voltage overhead lines.
The Electricity (Workers’ Safety) Regulation 1992 provides that an employee must not carry out certain work on electricity apparatus (which includes an overhead line) if the employee has not received training which is appropriate for the type of work concerned. Under clause 13 (3) of the Regulation, a person is not considered to have received appropriate training for certain work on a live high voltage overhead line

unless the person has obtained a qualification referred to in that clause, or a certificate from one of the bodies specified in Part 5 of Schedule l to the Regulation showing that the employee has satisfactorily completed the course in training in live high voltage overhead line work conducted by that body. This Regulation adds the South East Queensland Electricity Corporation to that list of bodies.
This Regulation is made under the Electricity Act 1945, including section 37 (2) (k) (which empowers the Governor to make regulations for or with respect to the training and qualifications of persons who perform work concerning high voltage electrical equipment).
