ELECTRICITY ACT 1945 - REGULATION
(Relating to residual current devices)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Electricity Act 1945, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Consumers’ Electrical Installations (Safety) Regulations 1961 are amended by omitting Regulation 5 (3) and by inserting instead the following clause:
(3) For the purposes of these Regulations, the S.A.A Wiring Rules are to be taken to contain a requirement that the installation of a consumer’s installation must include the installation of one or more fixed residual current devices, having a rated residual current not exceeding 30 mA, to protect:
general purpose socket-outlets (other than socket-outlets supplying refrige rators and freezers) installed in domestic premises; and
socket-outlets, installed in caravan parks, that supplycaravans and movable dwellings.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Consumers’ Electrical Installations (Safety) Regulations 1961 to alter the provision that requires the installation of a residual current device in certain consumers’ electrical installations to clarify the type of device required (one having a rated residual current not exceeding 30 mA).
