2 Education (General Provisions—Overseas Curriculum) No. 60, 1993 ˙ Short title 1. This order in council may be cited as the Education (General Provisions—Overseas Curriculum) Order 1993 . ˙ Definitions 2. In this order— “accrediting authorities” mean— (a) the department that deals with matters arising under the Education (General Provisions) Act 1989 ; and (b) the department that deals with matters arising under the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 1991 ; and (c) National ELICOS Accreditation Scheme Ltd (Australian Company Number 003 980 667); “Daiken course” means a curriculum for students who are preparing to sit for the Daigaku Nyugaku Shikaku Kentei (Daiken) certificate examinations in Japan; “ELICOS” means English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students; “NEAS” means the National ELICOS Accreditation Scheme administered by National ELICOS Accreditation Scheme Ltd. ˙ Establishment of place for teaching overseas curriculum 3. For the purposes of section 75 of the Act, “THE OFFICE”—Business Academy Pty Ltd (Australian Company Number 010 129 325) is authorised to establish a place to offer a Daiken course. ˙ Conditions of authorisation 4.(1) The authorisation mentioned in section 3 is subject to the conditions mentioned in this section. (2) The Daiken course must be conducted on premises that have been

(3) A student enrolled in the Daiken course must, before starting the course— (a) be at least 15; and (b) have completed the prerequisite subjects in a junior high school in Japan that are necessary to undertake the Daiken course; and (c) have received a graduation certificate from a junior high school in Japan. (4) A person who teaches the English subject components of the Daiken course must meet the professional standards established under NEAS for staff in institutions offering ELICOS in Australia.
