This regulation may be cited as the Education (General Provisions) Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 1992 . ˙ Commencement 2. This regulation commences on 1 January 1993. ˙ Amended regulation 3. The Education (General Provisions) Regulation 1989 is amended as set out in this regulation. ˙ Amendment of s.55 (Textbook and resource allowance) 4. Section 55(3)— omit, insert— ‘(3) In this section— “prescribed rate” means, in respect of an approved student who is— (a) enrolled in year 8, 9 or 10—$69.00 per year; or (b) enrolled in year 11 or 12—$158.00 per year; or (c) enrolled in a 2 year training course at a rural training school—$158.00 per year; or (d) enrolled in the office education course CN068 or CN069 at a college of technical and further education—$79.00 per year. ’. ˙ Replacement of s.57 (Per capita allowances to certain student hostels) 5. Section 57— omit , insert— ˙ ‘Per capita allowances to certain student hostels ‘57.(1) A person, who is in charge of a student hostel for the accommodation of students attending a school in receipt of subsidy, may

3 Education (General Provisions) Amendment (No. 1) No. 437, 1992 apply to the Minister to be paid an allowance in respect of each student boarding at the hostel. ‘(2) The application must be made in the form approved by the Minister. ‘(3) After considering the application, the Minister may pay either or both of the following allowances— (a) a Student Hostel General Purpose Grant of $320.00 per year per student; (b) subject to subsection (4)—a Student Hostel Pastoral Care Grant of $528.00 per year per student, to a maximum of $10 560.00 per year per hostel. ‘(4) The Minister must not pay an allowance under subsection (3)(b) in respect of a student who is receiving a grant from the Commonwealth government under the ABSTUDY scheme. ‘(5) In this section— “school in receipt of subsidy” has the meaning given by section 72 of the Act. ’. ˙ Amendment of s.58 (Living away from home allowances) 6.(1) Section 58(2)(b)(i)(Table 1)— omit, insert— ‘TABLE 1 Part 1—Primary School Column 1 (per year) Column 2 (per year) A charge of not more than $682.00 The amount of the charge A charge of more than $682.00 $682.00 plus 50c for each dollar charged in excess of $682.00, to a maximum of $1 364.00
