EDUCATION (BOARD OF STUDIES) REGULATIONS
Regulations under the Education Act
These Regulations may be cited as the
These Regulations shall come into operation on the commencement of the
(1) For the purposes of section 10C of the Act, the members of the Board are to be drawn from the following interest groups and bodies:
(a) one member (who is a parent of a child who attends a Government school) who represents the interests of parents of children who attend Government schools;
(b) one member (who is a parent of a child who attends a non-Government school) who represents the interests of parents of children who attend non-Government schools;
(c) one member (who is a parent of a child who attends a remote school) who represents the interests of parents of children who attend remote schools (whether Government or non-Government);
(d) one member (who is a practising teacher) who represents the interests of teachers;
(e) one member who represents post-school education to be drawn from persons nominated by the following bodies:
(i) the Charles Darwin University;
(ii) the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education;
(iii) the Centralian College;
(f) one member (who is the head teacher of a primary school) who represents the interests of head teachers of primary schools;
(g) one member (who is the head teacher of a secondary school) who represents the interests of head teachers of secondary schools;
(h) one member who is an employee of the department administering the Act;
(i) one member nominated by the Northern Territory branch of the Australian Education Union;
(j) one member nominated by the Trades and Labor Council;
(k) one member nominated by the Northern Territory Catholic Education Office;
(l) one member nominated by the Association of Independent Schools of the NT;
(m) 2 members who represent the interests of employers;
(n) one member who represents the interests of indigenous people.
(2) For the purposes of subregulation (1)(a), (b), (c), (d), (f), (g), (m) and (n), the Minister must call for nominations from persons to represent the interests of the particular group referred to in the paragraph by publishing a notice in a newspaper circulating in the Territory seeking expressions of interest.
(3) In addition to subregulation (2), the Minister may notify an interest group or body in any way he or she thinks fit that nominations for appointment to the Board are being sought.
