AN ACT to amend the Education Act, 1928-1952.

[Assented to 5th December, 1955.]

RE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent

Majesty, by and with the advice and consent

of the Legislative Council and the Legislative

Assembly of Western Australia, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the

same, as follows:—

Short title

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Education

and citation.

Act Amendment Act, 1955.

(2) In this Act the Education Act, 1928-1952,

Act No. 33 of 1928 as amended by Acts Nos. 43 of 1929, 7 of 1930, 30 of 1943 and 30 of 1952,

is referred to as the principal Act.

(3) The principal Act as amended by this Act

may be cited as the Education Act, 1928-1955.

New s. 9A

added.

2. The principal Act is amended by adding after

section nine a section as follows:—

Limited

subsidising

of schools

9A. Notwithstanding anything to the con- trary in The Assisted Schools Abolition Act, 1895, the Treasurer of the State shall in every year place at the disposal of the Minister such moneys as may be provided by Parliament, to be applied wholly or partly in or towards

(a)

subsidising efficient schools for the purposes and to the extent following, namely-

(i)  for the purchase of projectors to the extent of one-half of the total cost of the purchase; and

(ii)    for the purchase of any radio equipment to the extent of one- half of the total cost of the purchase up to a maximum of fifty pounds for any one school in any one year; and

(b)

the provision, for the use by school children, of school stationery and of Government publications prepared specially for use in schools.
