Explanatory note

The Education Reform Amendment Act 1997 contains changes to the curriculum for students in Years 11 and 12 who are candidates for the Higher School Certificate. Those changes are to commence on 1 January 2000. The object of this Regulation is to provide, as a transitional matter, for Year 12 students who are candidates for the Higher School Certificate in 2000 to complete their studies under the provisions of the Education Act 1990, the regulations under that Act and the rules of the Board of Studies that applied immediately before those changes commence.

The Regulation also changes the name of the Education Reform Regulation 1996 to bring i t into line with the name of the Education Act 1990 as changed by the Education Reform Amendment Act 1997.

This Regulation is made under the Education Act 1990, including section 130 (the general regulation-making power) and clause 2 of Schedule 3 (Savings, transitional and other provisions).

1 Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Education Reform Amendment (HSC
Transitional Provisions) Regulation 1998.

2 Amendment of Education Reform Regulation 1996

The Education Reform Regulation 1996 is amended as set out in

Schedule 1.

3 Notes

The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation.

Schedule 1 Amendments

(Clause 2)

  1. Clause 1 Name of Regulation

    Omit “Reform”.

  2. Clause 3 Definitions

    Omit “Reform” from the definition of the Act or the new Act.

  3. Clause 10A

    Insert after clause 10:

    10A Transitional provisions relating to the HSC

    The curriculum for Year 12 students who are candidates for the Higher School Certificate in 2000 must meet the requirements of:

(a) the Act, and
(b) the regulations. and

(c)

the rules made by the Board of Studies under section 131 of the Act,

as in force immediately before 1 January 2000.
