DOG ACT 1966—REGULATION

(Requiring American Pit Bull Terriers to be muzzled)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Dog Act 1966, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Regulation commences on 1 March 1994.

Amendment

2. The Dog Regulation 198 1 is amended by inserting after Part 5 the

following Part:

PART 6—MISCELLANEOUS

Species or kinds of dogs required to be muzzled (section 7)

20. For the purposes of section 7 of the Act (Muzzling of greyhounds and other species or kinds of dogs), the American Pit Bull Terrier is prescribed as a species or kind of dog to which that section applies.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to require owners of American Pit Bull Terrier dogs to ensure that they are muzzled in such a manner as to prevent them from biting any person or animal. At present, this requirement applies only to owners of greyhound dogs. The Dog Act 1966 sets out the circumstances in which this requirement does not apply (for example, when the dog is on premises occupied by the owner).

This Regulation is made under section 7 (Muzzling of greyhounds and other species

or kinds of dogs) of the Dog Act 1966.
