An Act to amend the District Court Act, 1973, as a consequence of the enactment of the Legal Practitioners (Solicitors' Remuneration) Amendment Act, 1984. [Assented to, 19th June, 1984.]

District Court (Solicitors' Remuneration) Amendment.

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the "District Court (Solicitors' Remunera-

tion) Amendment Act, 1984".

Commencement.

(1) Sections 1 and 2 shall commence on the date of assent to this Act. (2) Except as provided by subsection (1), this Act shall commence on the day appointed and notified under section 2 (2) of the Legal Prac- titioners (Solicitors' Remuneration) Amendment Act, 1984.

Amendment of Act No. 9, 1973.

1. The District Court Act, 1973, is amended in the manner set forth in

Schedule 1.

(1) Section 122 (2), (3 )—

Omit the subsections.

(2) Section 161 ( l j (j)—

Omit the paragraph, insert instead:—

(j) any matter relating to the taxation or other ascertainment of costs payable by a party to another party in proceedings in the Court, including—

(i)   the regulating of the application of scales or other amounts of costs fixed by determinations under section 2 0 J (2) of the Legal Practitioners Act, 1898, to any such taxation or other ascertainment of costs; and

(ii)   the fixing of scales or other amounts of witnesses' expenses so payable;
