13888 STOCK. ----------------------------- Diseases 1n Stock, Etc., Amendment Act. 22 GEO. V. No. 34, Collective titles. This Act shall be read as one with *"The Diseases in Stock Acts, 1915 to 1930," and shall also be read as one with t"The Brands Acts, 1915 to 1916." *"The Diseases in Stode Acts, 1915 to 1930," as amended by this Act, may collectively be cited as " The Diseases in Stock Acts, 1915 to 1931"; t"The Brands Acts, 1915 to 1916," as amended by this Act, may collectively be cited as " The Brands Acts, 1915 to 1931." Arnendrnents of *"The Diseases ~ n Stock Acts, 1915 to 1930." Amendment 2. Section seven of *"The Diseases in Stock Acts, tohfes.D 7 isoefases 1915 to 1930," is repealed, and a new section seven is in Stock inserted in lieu thereof, namely :- Acts. Assessment . " [7.] Subject as hereinafter provided, the Minister may in each year make and levy an assessment on each owner of stock at rates to be fixed by him, but of not more than the rates provided in the scale following (to be utilised for the purposes as set forth in the said scale), that is to say :--- - - (a) Horses and Cattle together- Number. _ _ _ _ _ _ ~ _ _ _ ~ _ ~ __ i Rate. Provided that- (a) An assessment of not more than four shillings shall be payable by an owner of less than one hundred head of horses or cattle, but no assessment shall be payable by an owner of less than twenty-five head of horses or cattle, and no assessment shall be paid by an owner of less than one hundred sheep; 13889

(b) Any such rate of assessment may be reduced or wholly remitted by the Governor in Council by Order in Council. The returns made under *"The Stock Returns Act of 1893," or any Act amending the same, shall be used for the purposes of this Act. Any owner who fails to pay such assessment or to make any return of stock required by this Act or *"The Stock Returns Act of 1893 " (or any Act amending the same), or who makes a return of stock which is false in any material particular, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds; and moreover, an owner shall, on conviction for making any such false return, pay double assessment on the actual figures over and above those returned." Amendments of t"The Brands Acts, 1915 to 1916." Amendment 3. Paragraph (b) of subsection one of section ( i) s~ f2? , ~ he twenty-six of t"The Brands Acts, 1915 to 1916," is repealed B 1 1 9 9 r 1 a 1 5 n 6. d t " o s Acts, annamd et 1 hye : f-ollowing paragraph is inserted in lieu thereof, "(b) The annual assessment at the rate provided for in the third column of the scale set forth in section seven of " The Diseases in Stock Acts, 1915 to 1931" (being that portion of the combined rate contained in the second column of the said scale which is to be utilised for the purposes of "The Brands Acts, 1915 to 1931," according to the said third col umn) shall be levied on and paid by all owners possessed of not less than twenty-five head of horses and cattle, and shall be paid by them on the first day of January in every year or within one month thereafter." * 57 Vic.
