Discrimination Amendment Act (No 2) 1999

An Act to amend the Discrimination Act 1991

[Notified in ACT Gazette S65: 23 December 1999]

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:

1. Name of Act

   This Act is the Discrimination Amendment Act (No 2) 1999.

2. Commencement

   This Act commences on the day it is notified in the Gazette.

3. Act amended

   This Act amends the Discrimination Act 1991.

4. Measures intended to achieve equality

   Section 27 is amended by adding at the end the following subsection:

5. However, subsection (1) does not make it lawful to do an act for a purpose mentioned in that subsection if the act discriminates against a member of the relevant class in a way that is irrelevant to the achievement of that purpose.”.
