NOTE 1:  OPERATING IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

Subregulation 79(2) of the Northern Territory (NT) Traffic Regulations provides that each road and public place in the NT is a road train area.  Access is restricted where necessary through signage in urban areas and a road train map is available from the NT for further guidance.  On other parts of the network access is restricted through weight restrictions relating to infrastructure (eg. bridges) and seasonal conditions.

NOTE 2:  OPERATING IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Heavy vehicle access to WA routes in addition to this Determination is by Period Permit, as required under regulations 30 and 34 of the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 2002 (WA).  For FIRS registered heavy vehicles, regulation 12(L)(2) of the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986 provides for operation by permit.

NOTE 3: Higher mass limit vehicles registered under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme are also permitted to operate on a route that is authorised under a relevant instrument made under state and territory legislation. See subparagraph 12C(6)(a)(ii) and Schedule 4A of the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986.
