This Instrument is the Determination of Routes for Vehicles, other than
B-doubles and Rigid Truck and Trailer Combinations, carrying Higher Mass Limits under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS) 2011 No.1.

This Instrument revokes Determination of Routes for Vehicles other than
B-doubles and Rigid Truck and Trailer Combinations, carrying Higher Mass Limits under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS) No.1, made on 18 September 2009.
Determination
The routes specified in the publication listed in paragraph (i) below and the routes listed in paragraphs (ii) and (iii) are, for vehicles other than B-doubles and rigid truck and trailer combinations carrying higher mass as provided under subregulation 12A(4) and paragraph 12B(1)(c) of the Regulations, routes on which higher mass limit vehicles may be driven.
(i) QUEENSLAND
Guideline for Higher Mass Limits for Vehicles with Road Friendly Suspensions in Queensland, Form Number 10, Version 7, August 2010.
(ii) NEW SOUTH WALES
The routes available in New South Wales for FIRS vehicles carrying higher mass limits under the Regulations are set out in Table 1.

Conditions
Operation of a vehicle on the routes specified in paragraph 3(i) is subject to any conditions set out in the publication so far as those conditions are not inconsistent with the Act, the Interstate Road Transport ChargeAct 1985, the Interstate Road Transport Charge Regulations2009 and the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986
NOTE 1: OPERATING IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY
Subregulation 79(1) of the Northern Territory (NT) Traffic Regulations provides that each road and public place in the NT is a road train area. Access is restricted where necessary through signage in urban areas and a road train map is available from the NT for further guidance. On other parts of the network access is restricted through weight restrictions relating to infrastructure (eg. bridges) and seasonal conditions.
NOTE 2: Higher mass limit vehicles registered under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme are also permitted to operate on a route that is authorised under a relevant instrument made under state and territory legislation. See subparagraph 12C(6)(a)(ii) and Schedule 4A of the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986.
