Name of Instrument
This Instrument is the Determination of Routes for B-double Vehicles Carrying Higher Mass Limits under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS) 2007 (No.1).
Commencement
This Instrument commences on 1 April 2007.
Revocation
This Instrument revokes Determination of Routes for B-double Vehicles Carrying Higher Mass Limits under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS), made on 14 January 2002.
Determination
The routes specified in the publication listed in paragraph (i) below and the routes listed in paragraphs (ii) and (iii) below are, for B-doubles carrying higher mass as provided under subregulation 12A(4) and paragraph 12B(1)(c) of the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986, the routes for the carriage of passengers or goods between prescribed places or for any purpose that is incidental to carriage of that kind.
(i) QUEENSLAND

(ii) NEW SOUTH WALES
The routes available in New South Wales for FIRS B-Doubles vehicles carrying higher mass limits under the Regulations are set out in Table 1.

Conditions
Operation of a B-double on the routes specified in paragraph 4(i) is subject to any conditions set out in the publication so far as those conditions are not inconsistent with the Act, the Interstate Road Transport ChargeAct 1985, the Interstate Road Transport Charge Regulations2006 and the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986.
NOTE 1: OPERATING IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY
Subregulation 79(2) of the Northern Territory (NT) Traffic Regulations provides that each road and public place in the NT is a road train area. Access is restricted where necessary through signage in urban areas and a road train map is available from the NT for further guidance. On other parts of the network access is restricted through weight restrictions relating to infrastructure (eg. bridges) and seasonal conditions.
NOTE 2: OPERATING IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Heavy vehicle access to WA routes in addition to this Determination is by Period Permit, as required under regulations 30 and 34 of the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 2002 (WA). For FIRS registered heavy vehicles, Subregulation 12(L)(2) of the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986 provides for operation by permit.
NOTE 3: B-doubles registered under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme are also permitted to operate on a route that is authorised under a relevant instrument made under state and territory legislation. See subregulation 12C(6) and Schedule 4A of the Interstate Road Transport Regulations 1986.
