HIMIF 2009/2010 TAC D8 DETERMINATION

TOTAL ALLOWABLE CATCH DETERMINATION – 2009/2010 SEASON

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority makes the following determination under section 11 of the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery Management Plan 2002.

Citation

1.       This Determination may be cited as the HIMIF 2009/2010 TAC D8 Determination.

Commencement

2.       This Determination commences on the day after registration on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.

Application

3.       This Determination applies to a holder of a fishing concession in the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery and to a person acting on behalf of the holder of that fishing concession.

Interpretation

4.       A term used in this Determination that is defined for the purposes of the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery Management Plan 2002 has the same meaning in this Determination as it has in that Plan.

[Note: Terms defined in the Fisheries Management Act 1991 have the same meanings in this Determination.]

Determination of total allowable catch and catch limits

5.       The total allowable catch for target species and catch limits for bycatch species in the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery for the season which commences on 1 December 2009 and which will end on 30 November 2010 are:

Target species:

Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides)       2,550 tonnes

Mackerel Icefish (Champsocephalus gunnari)         1,658 tonnes

Bycatch Species:

Macrourus spp     360 tonnes

Unicorn Icefish (Channichthys rhinoceratus)              150 tonnes

Skates and Rays (Bathyraja spp.)     120 tonnes

Grey Rockcod (Lepidonotothen squamifrons)              80 tonnes

All other species       50 tonnes (for each species)
