An Act for preventing the introduction of Insects or of
Matter destructive to Vegetation.
[Assented to 6th September, 1880.

etroduction of prejudicial to vegetation. Any such order may prohibit or regulateinsects, or of
matter destine- the landing in or other introduction into Western Australia of any tiveor prejudicial tree, shrub,plant, or any portion thereof, or any substance, or anyto vegetation
other article, whether vegetable or mineral, from any place out of Western Australia, the landing or other introduction whereof may appear to the Governor in Council likely to introduce any such insect or matter into Western Australia ; and may direct or authorise the destruction of any such tree, shrub, plant, substance, or article, if landed or introduced, or found on board of any ship or vessel within the limits of any port or harbour of Western Australia, and of any letter, package, or covering in which the same may be found or be reasonably suspected to have been. If any person land, or introduce, or attempt to laud or introduce any article in contravention of any order under this Act such articles shall be liable to be forfeited in like manner as goods the importation whereof is prohibited by the Acts relating to the Customs are liable to be forfeited, and the person so offending shall be liable according to those Acts to such penalties as are imposed on persons importing or attempting to import goods, the importation of which is prohibited by those Acts.

| Orders to he laid | 3. Every order under this Act shall be laid before the Legislative Council within ten days after the making thereof, if the Council is then sitting ; and if not, then within ten days after the next sitting of the Legislative Council. |

| Expenses of Act | 4. The expenses of the execution of this Act shall be paid out of the General Revenue of the Colony. |
| Shortening Or. | 5. Sections E, F, G, and II of the Shortening Ordinance, 1853,' shall be incorporated with and taken to form part of this Act to all intents and purposes, and in as full and complete a manner as if the said sections had been introduced and fully set forth herein. |
