DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

BUILDING ACT.

Act No. 7, 1929.

An Act to sanction the construction of a building

t o accommodate t he Depa r tmen t of Agri­

culture ; to amend t h e Depa r tmen t of Agriculture Building Act, 1916, and the Public Works Act, 1912 : and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to , 28th March, 1929.]

BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis­ lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New S o u t h
Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the a u t h o r i t y of
the same, a s follows :—

1 . (1) This Act may be cited as the " Department of Agriculture Building Act, 1929."

(2) This Act shall be deemed to have commenced upon the twentieth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight.

2 . (1) The work described in the Schedule to this Act is hereby sanctioned in lieu of the work sanctioned by the Department of Agriculture Building Act, 1916, so far as the same has not been carried out, and the Secretary for Public Works is empowered to carry out the work sanctioned by this section.

(2) The provisions of sections thirty-four, thirty- five, thirty-six, and thirty-seven of the Public Works Act, 1912, shall not apply to the said work, but subject as aforesaid the work shall be carried out under the provisions of that Act.

3 . (1) The plans of the said work are the plans
marked No. 2 to No. 27 (both inclusive) signed by the
Secretary for Public Works and deposited in the public
office

office of the Minister of Agriculture, such plans being
annexures to an indenture made the twenty-first day
of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty- eight, between William James Kell of Burwood and Alfred Leslie Rigby of Burwood of the one part and the Minister for Public Works for and on behalf of His Majesty the King of the other part.
(2) The work shall be carried out in accordance with the plans referred to in this section subject to such minor alterations and modifications as to the said secretary shall seem expedient and proper.
(3) The cost of carrying out the said work (exclusive of land resumptions) is estimated at one
hundred and seventy-five thousand one hundred and

thirty-two pounds, and such estimated cost shall not, under any circumstances, be exceeded by more than ten per centum and shall be defrayed out of funds provided by Parliament.

S C H E D U L E .

THE proposed new offices for the Department of Agriculture will occupy the site immediately to the south of the offices for the Depart­ ment of Public Instruction and will adjoin same, and will have frontages to Loftus, Raphael, and Young .streets, also a corner frontage between Loftus and Raphael Streets.

The building will consist of eight stories and will have a steel

frame of stanchions, girders, and rolled steel 1 earns, which will

support the reinforced concrete floors and stone, brick, and terra-cotta

walls. All steel work will be encased in reinforced concrete.

The four elevations to the streets will be formed with Sydney sand

stone facings, backed up with brick and concrete, all tied together

with steel cramps.
The walls facing the rear area will be built in brickwork and cemented on the outer faces. The inner walls surrounding the stairs, elevators, and lavatories will lie in brickwork; those dividing the offices will be in terra cotta, lumber, or aerocrete, and those, in some cases, facing the corridors, will have wood and glass framings above •seven feet high.

The roof will be of concrete with slight falls and covered with

asphalt.
