An Act to amend the Dentists Registration Act 1931

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the Dentists Registration (Amendment) Act 1993.
Commencement
2. (1) Section 1 and this section commence on the day on which this Act is notified in the Gazette.
(2) The remaining provisions shall be taken to have commenced on 1 March 1993.
Principal Act
3. In this Act, “Principal Act” means the Dentists Registration Act 1931.1
No person other than a registered dentist to practise dentistry
4. Section 34 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting after subsection (1A) the following subsection:
“(1B) Nothing in this section prohibits a person—
(a)who is a public servant designated as a dental therapist; or
(b)who is otherwise employed or engaged by the Territory as a dental therapist;
from doing any act that would be a contravention of this section if the act is done by that person in the performance of the duties of that office or position and subject to the direction and control of a registered dentist.”.
