816 A NN O VICESIMO SECU NDO ELIZABETHAE S EC U ND A E REG I N A E No. 90 of 1973 An Act to am end the Dental Act1971 in certain particulars [ASSENTED TO 20TH DECEMBER, 1973] BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: - 1. Short title and citation . (1) This Act may be cited as the Dental Act Amendment Act 1973. (2) The Dental Act 1971 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act. (3) The Principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the Dental Act1971-1973.

Section 4 of the Principal Act is amended by adding to the definition " operative dental auxiliary " the following words " and where so prescribed in respect of prescribed classes of persons only ". 3. Amendment of s. 22. Section 22 of the Principal Act is amended by- (a) omitting the words " obtained after due examination and "; (b) inserting after the words " prescribed fee " the words " and with the approval of the Board ". 4. Amendment of s. 26. Section 26 of the Principal Act is amended by, in subsection (4), omitting from subparagraph (b) the word " Commissioner " and substituting the word " Commission ". 5. Amendment of s. 30. Section 30 of the Principal Act is amended by, in subsection (3), omitting subparagraph (c) and substituting the following subparagraph:- `` (c)- (i) dentistry by a person undergoing a course of training in the performance of the duties prescribed with respect to an operative dental auxiliary in relation to dentistry under the immediate personal supervision of a person registered under this Act; (ii) dentistry by an operative dental auxiliary holding a prescribed office to the extent prescribed, under the direction and control of a person registered under this Act, and under such conditions as are prescribed, and where such dentistry is limited by the by-laws to certain classes of persons, with respect to a member of one of those classes only;". 6. New s. 30A. The Principal Act is amended by inserting after section 30 the following section:- 30A. Training, designation and duties of operative dental a' es. (1) The Board may approve courses of training with respect to operative dental auxiliaries that may differ for different designations of operative dental auxiliaries. (2) The by-laws- (a),-may prescribe different designations for operative dental auxiliaries who have successfully completed different approved courses of training; (b) may prescribe different duties for different designations of operative dental auxiliaries according to the approved course of training successfully completed by them;

818 Dental Act Amendment Act 1973, No. 90 (c) may restrict the performance of different duties by operative dental auxiliaries to different classes of persons according to the approved course of training successfully completed by those operative dental auxiliaries.". 7. Amendment of s. 34. Section 34 of the Principal Act is amended by, in subparagraph (a), inserting after the words " not, at a date " the word " or ". By Authority: S. R.
