This is the
Defence Legislation Amendment (First Principles) Transitional Regulation 2016 .
(1) Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

This instrument is made under section 4 of the
Defence Legislation Amendment (First Principles) Act 2015 .
In this instrument:
new law means theDefence Act 1903 , as in force immediately after the commencement of Schedule 1 to theDefence Legislation Amendment (First Principles) Act 2015 .
old law means theDefence Act 1903 , as in force immediately before the commencement of Schedule 1 to theDefence Legislation Amendment (First Principles) Act 2015 .
Appointment of the Chief of the Defence Force
(1) The appointment of the Chief of the Defence Force, as in force under the old law immediately before 1 July 2016, has effect, on and from that day, as if it had been made under subsection 12(1) of the new law.
Appointment of the Vice Chief of the Defence Force
(2) The appointment of the Vice Chief of the Defence Force, as in force under the old law immediately before 1 July 2016, has effect, on and from that day, as if it had been made under subsection 12(2) of the new law.
Term of appointment
(3) The Chief of the Defence Force and the Vice Chief of the Defence Force continue to hold office for the balance of their term of appointment that remains immediately before 1 July 2016.
This instrument is repealed at the start of 2 July 2018.
