1  Name

This instrument is the Defence (Individual Benefits) Determination 2023 (No. 4).

2  Commencement

This Determination commences on the day after registration.

3  Authority

This Determination is made under section 58B of the Defence Act 1903.

4  Purpose

This Determination provides removal and storage benefits for a member overseas due to exceptional circumstances.

5  Application

This Determination applies to the member holding the employee identification number 8537480.

6  Definitions

In this Determination, the following apply.

Overseas posting location means the location of the member’s most recent long-term posting overseas.

7  Removal benefit

The member is eligible for the following.

a.    Removal of items from their residence at the overseas posting location to storage.

b.   Removal of stored items to a location approved by Director Career Management – Navy.

8  Storage benefit

The member is eligible for storage of the items removed under paragraph 8.a at the overseas posting location until 13 February 2024.

9  Insurance

1.      The member may be reimbursed insurance costs for the period starting and ending on the following days.

a.    Starting on 20 June 2023.

b.   Ending on the day the items are delivered to the location approved under section 8.b.

2.      The reimbursement is limited to the lesser of the following amounts.

a.     The cost of world-wide multiple risks insurance to cover the value of the items up to AUD 53,000.

b.    The cost of the insurance worked out at the rate of AUD 2 per AUD 100 insured.

10  Removal and storage costs payable by the Department of Defence

Any costs relating to the removal and storage of the member’s items at the overseas posting location that were incurred prior to the commencement of this Determination are payable by the Department of Defence.

11  Repeal

This Determination repeals on 20 February 2024.
