Defence (General) Regulations

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence Act 1903.

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Defence (General) Regulations.

Interpretation

2. In these Regulations, unless the contrary intention appears, “club” means a rifle club affiliated with the National Rifle Association of Australia.

Conduct of canteens by clubs

3. (1) Where a club conducts a canteen on a rifle range during the continuance of a meeting of the club held for the purpose of competition or practice in rifle shooting:

(a) a person from time to time holding, occupying or performing the duties of an office in the Australian Public Service of Regional Secretary within the Department of Defence may, in writing, approve the sale and supply of intoxicating liquor at the canteen; and

(b) a member of the club is not required to obtain or have a licence or permission, under a law of the State or Territory in which the rifle range is situated, for the sale or supply of intoxicating liquor at the canteen to members of the Defence Force or members of clubs.

(2) The power of approval under paragraph (1) (a) may not be delegated.
