1  Name

This instrument is the Defence (Defence Areas – Talisman Sabre 2021).

2  Commencement

  This instrument commences on the 18^th of July 2021.

3  Authority

This instrument is made under section 58 of the Defence Regulation 2016.

4  Declaration of defence area – Bowen

(1)  The Bowen area is declared to be a defence area for the defence purpose of preparing for, and conducting, Exercise Talisman Sabre 2021 and post-exercise activities (including, but not limited to, the participation of members of the Defence Force and the United States armed forces in amphibious landings in the area).

(2)  Entry into the Bowen area is prohibited during particular periods as determined under subsection 59(1) of the Defence Regulation 2016.

(3)  The Bowen area is the areas of land and sea in and near the town of Bowen in Queensland that are depicted with dots on the map (the Bowen map) set out in Schedule 1 to this instrument.

(4) The areas of land and sea depicted with dots on the Bowen map are included in the Bowen area. The following are to be used for the purposes of determining the areas of sea so depicted:

(a)    the relevant geographical coordinates shown on the map;

(b)    the high water mark of the relevant coastlines shown on the map.

5Repeal of this instrument

This instrument is repealed on 31 July 2021.
