COMPENSATION
ACT 1975

An
Act to provide for Payment by Australia of Compensation in respect of Loss of,
or Damage to, Property arising out of the Darwin Cyclone.
BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, the
Senate and the House of Representatives of Australia, as follows:—
Short title.
1. This Act may be cited as the Darwin
Cyclone Damage Compensation Act 1975.
Commencement.
2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives
the Royal Assent.
Definitions.
3. In this Act—
“cyclone” means the
cyclone that passed through Darwin on 25 December 1974;
“property” means real
and personal property.
Compensation.
4.The Minister may authorize the payment by Australia,
in accordance with directions given by him, of compensation in respect of loss
of, or damage to, property arising out of the cyclone.
Moneys to be
appropriated.
5. Compensation under this Act is payable out of moneys appropriated
by the Parliament for the purpose.
