DARLING HARBOUR AUTHORITY ACT 1984—REGULATION

(Relating to the regulation of New Year’s Eve activities)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Darling Harbour Authority Act 1984, has been plased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Darling Harbour (Management of Public Areas) Regulation 1988

is amended by inserting after clause 10 the following clause:

New Year’s Eve activities

10A. (1) This clause applies to New Year’s Eve activities (that is, activities occurring on 31 December or the following 1 January) promoted, organised or conducted within the Development Area by the Authority in the exercise of its functions under section 11 (a) and (b) of the Act.

(2) The Authority may, for the purpose of New Year’s Eve activities,

do any one or more of the following:

(a)

limit the number of persons who may enter the Development Area or any part of the Development Area;

(b) close any part of the Development Area to the public;

(c)

charge admission to the Development Area or any part of the Development Area;

(d)

prohibit persons from entering the Development Area or any part of the Development Area if they are in possession of alcohol or any other specified article or thing.

(3) Nothing in this clause limits any other function of the Authority

under this Regulation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to enable the Darling Harbour Authority to take measures to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of New Year’s Eve celebrations at Darling Harbour.
