Customs Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Customs Act 1901.

Commencement

1. These Regulations commence on 1 July 1989.

Interpretation

2. Regulation 1a of the Customs Regulations is amended by omitting the definition of “container”.

Delivery of goods for home consumption without entry

3. Regulation 42 of the Customs Regulations is amended:

(a) by omitting from paragraph (1) (e) “within the meaning of the Customs Convention on Containers signed at Geneva on 18 May 1956, being containers”;

(b) by adding at the end of subregulation (1) the following paragraph:

“(f) containers, other than those referred to in paragraph (e), that are intended for use principally in the international carriage of goods”.

Goods exempt from entry for export

4. Regulation 100 of the Customs Regulations is amended:

(a) by adding at the end of subregulation (1) the following paragraph:

“(e) containers that are intended for use principally in the international carriage of goods, other than containers:

(i) referred to in paragraph (d); or

(ii) that, when exported from Australia, had ceased, or are intended to cease, to be the property of a natural person resident, or a body corporate incorporated, in Australia”;

(b) by omitting subregulation (2).
