An Act to correct an error in the Customs

Duties Act of 1871. \_5th June, 1871.]

W H E R E A S when the Customs Dut ies Bill of 1 8 7 1 was after its

second reading in t he Legislat ive Assembly unde r t he consideration of a Commit tee of the W h o l e House i t was resolved by such Commit tee a m o n g other th ings t h a t t he du ty on wr i t ing and fancy paper should be a t t h e ra te of one penny per pound A n d whereas such resolution was reported to and adopted by the H o u s e A n d whereas before t h e said Bil l was read a th i rd t i m e i t was erroneously certified to t he Speaker t ha t t he said du ty on wr i t ing and fancy paper was fixed in Commit tee a t t h e ra te of one shil l ing per pound instead of a t t he ra te of one penny per pound A n d whereas the Bill was read a th i rd t ime wi thou t such error being corrected and was so passed and t ransmi t ted to t h e Legislat ive Council and was so re tu rned by such Legislat ive Council to t he Legislative Assembly A n d whereas such error is contained in the A c t as assented to by H e r Majesty A n d whereas i t is expedient to correct such error and to declare t h a t t he duty on wri t ing and fancy paper shall be one penny per pound instead of one shil l ing per pound Be it therefore declared and enac ted by the Queen ' s Most Exce l l en t Majesty by and wi th t h e advice a n d consent of t h e Legislat ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of N e w Sou th W a l e s in Pa r l i amen t assembled a n d by the au thor i ty of t h e same as follows :—

1. The du ty on wr i t ing and fancy paper imposed by the

Customs Dut ies A c t of 1 8 7 1 shall be held to be a n d shall be at t he ra te of one penny per pound and not one shi l l ing per pound as in

t h e said A c t ment ioned .
