An Act to repeal so much of the Customs Duties Act of 1871 as imposes Ad Valorem Duties and otherwise to amend the said
Act. [28th November, 1873.]
of the " Customs Duties Act of 1871" as provides for the imposition WH E R E A S it is expedient to repeal from and after the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four so much and collection of ad valorem duties and to abolish the specific duties on some of the articles specified in Schedule B to the said Act And whereas it is expedient to impose the additional specific duty herein after mentioned from and after the aforesaid date Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows :—
1. Prom and after the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four the fourth eighth ninth tenth eleventh twelfth thirteenth and fourteenth sections of the " Customs Duties Act of 1871" shall be and the same are hereby repealed.
2. Prom and after the said last-mentioned day the articles enumerated in the Schedule hereto annexed and forming part of the articles specified in Schedule B to the " Customs Duties Act of 1871" shall be exempt from the duties imposed by the said " Customs Duties Act of 1871" and the collection of such duties on the articles so enumerated in the Schedule hereto annexed shall from and after the said day cease and determine accordingly.
3. There shall be levied collected and paid from and after the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four on Sarsaparilla imported into the Colony and on such as may be in Bond on the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four a duty of four shillings per liquid gallon if containing not more than twenty-five per centum of proof spirit.
4. Nothing in this Act shall affect any act proceeding matter or thing done or taken or purporting so to be under the authority of any of the hereinbefore repealed sections or portions of Schedule B of the " Customs Duties Act of 1871" And all duties levied collected or paid under the authority of the said in part repealed Act shall be as valid and effectual at law as if this Act had not been passed.
5. This Act may be cited as the " Customs Duties Amendment Act of 1873" and shall be read with and as forming part of the " Customs Duties Act of 1871."
