An Ordinance to repeal certain Acts im- posing Duties on Goods imported into Western Australia, and to impose other Duties in lieu thereof.

HEREAS an Ordinance of the Legislative Council of this Preamble.

Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled "An Act to impose certain duties ? vie. N°.1.- colony was passed in the seventh year of the Reign of Her on imported spirituous liquors, and on wine and tobacco;" and whereas also, an Ordinance of the said Council, was passed in the

eighth year of the Reign of Her Majesty, intituled "An Act to repeal

the duties on certain goods imported into Western Australia, and to

impose other duties in lieu thereof;" and whereas it is expedient to

establish a different and more uniform rate of duty on .the several

goods imported into this colon y ; Be it therefore enacted, by His

Excellency the Governor of Western Australia, with the advice and

consent of the Legislative Council thereof, that the said recited Ordi-

nances, shall be, and the same are hereby repealed, except so far as

any prior Acts, or parts of prior Acts, are thereby respectively repealed,

and except so far as the continuance of the same, or any of the pro-

visions of the same, may be necessary for the recovery of any duties

charged or chargeable under either of the said Ordinances; and that from and after the passing of this Ordinance, there shall be charged,

raised, collected, levied, and paid, upon all goods, wares, and mer-

chandise, and upon all live stock, imported into this colony, the duties

respectively specified in the schedule hereunto annexed.

AND be it enacted, that the duties herein mentioned, shall be collected and levied in the manner pointed out by the provisions of any Ordinance or Ordinances for' the - time being in force for the general regulation of the Customs of the colony : Provided

under the Customs Act.

always nevertheless,. that the said duties shall be charged upon the

value of the -articles at the place of importation, which value shall, for the purposes of this present Ordinance, be deemed and taken to be, the invoice price of the said articles, with the ademion of twenty per cent, thereon.

Goods Free of Duty.

1.    All military or naval stores or provisions, required for Her

Majesty's service.

2.     All bottles of common glass imported full.

3.     All bullion and coin.

4.     All staves and hoops for casks.

5.     All trees and rooted plants.
