An Act to amend
the law relating to duties of Customs

IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:
Short
title, &c.
1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Customs Amendment Act 1980.
(2) The Customs Act 1901 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.
Commencement
2. This Act shall come
into operation on the date on which the Customs
Tariff (Uranium Concentrate Export Duty) Act 1980 comes into operation.
Export
duties
3. Section 133 of the
Principal Act is amended by adding at the end thereof the following
sub-section:
“(5) Duty imposed on Alligator
Rivers Region uranium concentrate by the Customs
Tariff (Uranium Concentrate Export Duty) Act 1980 shall be payable at the
rate in force when that concentrate is exported and shall be paid before that
concentrate is exported or within such further period as the Collector allows.”.
Alterations
to agreements where duty altered
4. Section 152 of the
Principal Act is amended by adding at the end thereof the following
sub-section:
“(3) Sub-section (1) does not apply
in relation to duty imposed by the Customs
Tariff (Uranium Concentrate Export Duty) Act 1980.”.
