1  Name

This is the Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination (No. 4) 2018.

2  Commencement

This instrument commences on the day after it is registered.

3  Authority

This instrument is made under paragraph 13(2)(b) and subsection 13A(1) of the Currency Act 1965.

4  Definitions

In this instrument:

Act means the Currency Act 1965.

5Specification of denominations and standard compositions

(1) This section is made for the purposes of paragraph 13(2)(b) of the Act.

(2)  The Act has effect, on and after the day on which this instrument commences, as if:

(a)  there were included in the Schedule to the Act the references to denominations of money specified in Part 1 of Schedule 1 to this instrument; and

(b)  there were specified in the Schedule to the Act opposite to each such denomination, as the standard composition of coins of that denomination, the standard composition specified for the denomination in Part 1 of Schedule 1 to this instrument.

(3) This section does not affect any other provision of a determination made for the purposes of paragraph 13(2)(b) of the Act.

6  Standard weight, design and dimensions of coins

(1) This section is made for the purposes of subsection 13A(1) of the Act.

(2)  On and after the day on which this instrument commences, each item of the table in Part 1 of Schedule 1 to this instrument specifies the standard weight, the allowable variation from that standard weight, the design and the dimensions of the coin whose denomination and standard composition are specified in that item.

(3)  A reference in Part 1 of Schedule 1 to the maximum diameter or other dimension of a coin that is tetradecagonal is a reference to the shortest diameter of the coin.

(4)  Each item of the table in Part 2 of Schedule 1 to this instrument explains a symbol used to describe the design of coins specified in Part 1 of Schedule 1.

(5) This section does not affect any other provision of a determination made for the purposes of subsection 13A(1) of the Act.

13 Reverse R7

A design consisting of:

(a)  in the centre, a representation of a pig and a piglet in a grassy field; and

(b)  a stylised representation of 3 peaches positioned on the ground in front of that pig; and

(c)  on the right, a stylised representation of a tree with peaches hanging from the branches; and

(d)  in the background a representation of a mountainous landscape and a fence; and

(e)  a representation of the Chinese character pronounced ‘zhū’ under the Pinyin system and meaning pig; and

(f)   the following:

        (i)     ‘50’;

       (ii)     the designer’s initials ‘SMS’.
