I, NICK SHERRY, Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law, make this Determination under paragraph 13 (2) (b) and subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965.

Name of Determination
This Determination is the Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination 2008 (No. 9).
Commencement
This Determination commences on the day after it is registered.
Definition
In this Determination:
Act means the Currency Act 1965.
Coin denomination and standard composition
(1) For paragraph 13 (2) (b) of the Act, the Act has effect, on and after the day on which this Determination commences, as if:
(a) there were included in the Schedule to the Act, a reference to the denomination ‘Fifty cents’ and there were specified in the Schedule, opposite that denomination, the standard composition ‘not less than 99.99% gold’ as the standard composition of coins of that denomination; and
(b) there were included in the Schedule to the Act, a reference to the denomination ‘One dollar’ and there were specified in the Schedule, opposite that denomination, the standard composition ‘not less than 99.99% gold’ as the standard composition of coins of that denomination.
(2) Subsection (1) does not affect any other determination made under paragraph 13 (2) (b) of the Act.
Specification of coins
For subsection 13A (1) of the Act, each item in Schedule 1 specifies, for a coin having the denomination and standard composition mentioned in the item:
(a) the coin’s standard weight; and
(b) the allowable variation from that standard weight; and
(c) the coin’s dimensions; and
(d) the coin’s design.
Application of Determination
The specifications in Schedule 1 do not affect any other determination of the specifications of a coin.
