1  Name

This instrument is the Currency (Australian Coins) Amendment (2023 Royal Australian Mint No. 9) Determination 2023.

2  Commencement

(1)  Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

A design consisting of an effigy of King Charles III and the following:

(a) “CHARLES III”; and

(b) “AUSTRALIA”; and

(c) the inscription, in Arabic numerals, of a year; and

(d) Arabic numerals for the amount, in dollars or cents, of the denomination of the coin, followed by “DOLLARS”, “DOLLAR” or “CENTS” as the case requires; and

(e) “DT”.

A design consisting of:

(a) a central circle enclosing the following:

(i) a stylised representation of part of the planet Earth viewed from space, incorporating an outline of Australia (exaggerated in size); and

(ii) a stylised representation of the moon; and

(iii) a stylised representation of a rocket representing Australia’s first satellite being launched; and

(iv) in the foreground and partially extending beyond the central circle, a representation of an astronaut in a spacesuit with a cord running from the Earth to the astronaut; and

(v) partially obscured by the astronaut, a depiction of the planet Jupiter; and

(vi) in the background, lines radiating from the Earth with stylised representations of stars and other celestial bodies at the ends of the lines, representing the field of astronomy; and

(vii) the letter “C”; and

(b) surrounding that central circle, a segmented banner containing the following:

(i) “OUT OF THIS WORLD”; and

(ii) “AUSTRALIA IN SPACE”; and

(c) immediately inside the rim of the coin, another segmented banner containing the following:

(i) “ROVERS”; and

(ii) “TECHNOLOGY”; and

(iii) “ROCKETS”; and

(iv) “ASTRONAUTS”; and

(v) “SATELLITES”; and

(vi) “COMMUNICATIONS”; and

(vii) “GPS”; and

(viii) “ASTRONOMY”; and

(ix) “EXPLORATION”; and

(x) “DISCOVERY”; and

(d) a stylised representation of the letters “EW”.
