An Act to fix t h e t ime of commencemen t of

t h e t i t le of cer tain Homes t ead Selections

and Se t t l ement Leases in order t h a t the appl icants may t ake immedia te possession of t he land. [15th June, 1896.]

WH E R E A S and se t t l ement leases should he enabled to t ake possession of

it is expedient t h a t appl icants for homestead selections

t h e l and appl ied for by t h e m "without delay : Be it therefore enacted by the Queen ' s Most Exce l l en t Majesty, by and wi th t he advice and consent of the Legis la t ive Council and Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w South Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled, and by the au thor i ty of the same, as follows :—

1. This Ac t m a y be cited as t he " C r o w n Lands (Homestead

Selections and Se t t l ement Leases) Act , 1896," and shall bo read w i t h t h e Crown Lands Ac t of 1895, and the Acts specified in the first section thereof.

2. The t i t le to any homestead selection or se t t l ement lease

applied for after t h e c o m m e n c e m e n t of th is A c t shall commence

f rom t h e date of appl icat ion therefor , if valid, a n d any such appl i ­ cat ion shal l wi thdraw such of the land the re in described as m a y be available for t h e purpose from any a n n u a l lease or occupat ion license unde r which i t m a y be held : Provided t h a t t h e l and agen t shall , w i th in one week of t he receipt of a n y such applicat ion, notify t he same t h r o u g h the post to t he holder of any a n n u a l lease or occu­

pa t ion license wi th in which the land appl ied for, or any pa r t thereof,

m a y be s i tuated.

The t i t le to any homestead selection or se t t l ement lease,

t h e appl ica t ion for which has been m a d e before, a n d is pend ing at , t h e commencemen t of this A c t shall , if such appl icat ion is valid, commence from t h e da te of commencemen t of th is A c t ; a n d a n y

such applicat ion shall , f rom t h e da te of such commencement , w i th ­

d raw such of t h e l and the re in described as m a y be available for t h e purpose from a n y annua l lease or occupat ion license unde r which i t m a y be held.

I n any such case r en t shal l be cha rged from t h e da te of com­

m e n c e m e n t of th is Act , or from the date of appl icat ion, as t he case

m a y be .
