B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, . by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- latIve Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same, as follows:- ' 1. The following paragraph is inserted after the first paragraph of the said section, as follows:- " For the purposes of this section, the term "parent," in addition to its ordinary meaning, shall, in the case of a child who has been legally adopted in Queensland or in any other State of the Commonwealth or in any Territory of the Commonwealth under the law relating to adoption for the time being in force in this State or other State or Territory, include the person or each of the persons (if more than one) who shall have so adopted the child concerned, each of whom shall be a parent of such child; but in any such case shall not include any natural parent of such adopted child concerned." (ii.) The last paragraph of the said section is amended by inserting after the word " claimed" wherever such word occurs the words "in good faith" ; and by inserting after the words "in the case of an illegitimate child" the words " not being a child who has been adopted as aforesaid." (iii.) The following paragraph is added to the said section, namely:- . "The husband or wife of the accused person is a competent but not a compellable witness." * 63 V. No. 9, Sch. I., v. 2, p. 665.
