An Act to amend the Crimes (Sentencing) Act 2005

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:

  1. Name of Act

    This Act is the Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Act 2024.

  2. Commencement

    This Act commences on the day after its notification day.

    NoteThe naming and commencement provisions automatically commence on the notification day (see Legislation Act, s 75 (1)).

  3. Legislation amended

    This Act amends the Crimes (Sentencing) Act 2005.

  4. New section 34AA

    after section 34, insert

34AASentencing—submissions

In deciding how an offender should be sentenced (if at all) for an offence, a court may consider a submission made by a party to the proceeding stating the sentence, or range of sentences, the party considers appropriate for the court to impose.
