I, QUENTIN BRYCE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Crimes (Overseas) Act 1964.

1Name of Regulations

These Regulations are the Crimes (Overseas) (Declared Foreign Countries) Amendment Regulations 2009 (No. 1).

2Commencement

These Regulations commence on 1 July 2009.

3Amendment of Crimes (Overseas) (Declared Foreign Countries) Regulations 2003

Schedule 1 amends the Crimes (Overseas) (Declared Foreign Countries) Regulations 2003.

6Papua New Guinea

  1. (1)

    For paragraph 3C (1) (a) of the Act, Papua New Guinea is a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act.

  2. (2)

    For subsection 3C (3) of the Act:

    1. (a)

      Papua New Guinea is taken to have been a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on and after 1 July 2009; and

    2. (b)

      Papua New Guinea is to cease being a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on 30 June 2014.

7Afghanistan

(1) For paragraph 3C (1) (a) of the Act, Afghanistan is a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act.

  1. (2)

    For subsection 3C (3) of the Act:

    1. (a)

      Afghanistan is taken to have been a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on and after 1 July 2009; and

    2. (b)

      Afghanistan is to cease being a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on 30 June 2014.
