Corrective Services Regulations Amendment (Firearms) Regulations 2024

Made by the Governor in Executive Council.

Part 1Preliminary1.Citation

These regulations are the Corrective Services Regulations Amendment (Firearms) Regulations 2024.

2.Commencement

These regulations come into operation as follows —

  • (a)

    Part 1 — on the day on which these regulations are published on the WA legislation website;

  • (b)

    the rest of the regulations — on the day on which the Firearms Act 2024 section 440 comes into operation.

Part 2Prisons Regulations 1982 amended3.Regulations amended

This Part amends the Prisons Regulations 1982.

4.Regulation 24 amended

In regulation 24(1A) in the definition of firearm item delete “Firearms Act 1973 section 4 —” and insert:

Firearms Act 2024 section 5 —

Part 3Sentence Administration Regulations 2003 amended5.Regulations amended

This Part amends the Sentence Administration Regulations 2003.

6.Regulation 21 amended
  • (1)

    Delete regulation 21(1)(a) and insert:

     
    • (a)

      any of the following as defined in the Firearms Act 2024 section 5 —

      • (i)

        a firearm;

      • (ii)

        a major firearm part;

      • (iii)

        a prohibited accessory;

      • (iv)

        ammunition;

    or

     

Note: The heading to amended regulation 21 is to read:

Exception to offences under Firearms Act 2024 and Misuse of Drugs Act 1981

  • (2)

    In regulation 21(2) delete “Firearms Act 1973” and insert:

     

Firearms Act 2024
