The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows:

Part 1—Preliminary

1—Short title and commencement

(1)This Act may be cited as the Corporal Punishment Abolition Act 1971 and shall come into operation on a day to be fixed by proclamation.

2—Abolition of corporal punishment

Notwithstanding any provision in any Act or law, after the commencement of this Act, no judgment, order or sentence of a court for the whipping, solitary confinement or other corporal punishment of any person, or for the use of the pillory, shall be passed, pronounced, imposed, recorded or carried out.

The Corporal Punishment Abolition Act 1971 was repealed by s 19 of the Statutes Amendment and Repeal (Simplify) Act 2019 on 3.10.2019.
