AN ORDINANCE

To amend the Coroners Ordinance 1956-1967.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under

the Seat of Government {Administration) Act 1910-1972.

CORONERS ORDINANCE 1973

1. (1) This Ordinance may be cited as the Coroners Ordinance

1973.*
(2) The Coroners Ordinance 1956-1967f is in this Ordinance referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance, may be cited as the Coroners Ordinance 1956-1973.

2. Section 2 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed and the follow­ ing section is substituted:—

" 2. This Ordinance is divided into Parts, as follows:—

Part I—Preliminary (Sections 1-4)

Part II—The Coroner's Court (Sections 5-10A)

Part III—Jurisdiction of Coroner

Division 1—Inquests into Deaths (Sections 11-12)

Division 2—Inquiries into Fires (Section 13)

Part IV—Post-mortem Examinations and Exhumations

(Sections 14-21)

Part V—Inquests and Inquiries Generally (Sections 22-34)

Part VI—Miscellaneous (Sections 35-46).".

3. Section 5A of the Principal Ordinance is repealed and the

following section substituted:—

" 5A . A person who is a magistrate is a Coroner for the Territory.".

4. Section 14 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting

in sub-section (2), after the word " deceased ", the word " person ".

5. The heading to Part V of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting the word " I N Q U E S T " and substituting the word " INQUESTS ".

6. Section 31 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting

the word " twenty-nine " and substituting the figures " 27 ".
