CORONERS

No. 2 of 1967

An Ordinance to amend the Coroners Ordinance
1956-1965.

1.—(1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Coroners Ordinance 1967.*

(2.) The Coroners Ordinance 1956-1965 is in this Ordin­ ance referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordin­ ance, may be cited as the Coroners Ordinance 1956-1967.

2. Section 2 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting the words and figures—

" P a r t II .—The Coroner's Court (sections 5-10)."

and inserting in their stead the words and figures—

" Part II .—The Coroner's Court (sections 5-10A.).".

3 . After section 10 of the Principal Ordinance the follow­ ing section is inserted in Part I I . :—
" 1 0 A . — ( 1 . ) There shall be a Clerk of the Coroner's Court and Deputy Clerks of the Coroner's Court each of whom shall, subject to the next succeeding sub-section, be appointed by the Attorney-General.

" (2.) Where an appointment of Clerk of the Coroner's Court is not in force, the Clerk of the Court of Petty Sessions shall be the Clerk of the Coroner's Court and, when an appoint­ ment of Deputy Clerk of the Coroner's Court is not in force, each Deputy Clerk of the Court of Petty Sessions shall be a Deputy Clerk of the Coroner's Court.".

4. Section 29 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed and the following section inserted in its stead:—
" 29. Section sixty of the Court of Petty Sessions Ordin­ ance 1930-1967 applies in relation to the depositions of any witness who gives evidence at an inquest or inquiry as if those depositions were depositions in proceedings in the Court of Petty Sessions and, for the purposes of that application, a reference in that section to the Court of Petty Sessions shall be read as a reference to the Coroner and a reference in that section to the Clerk of the Court of Petty Sessions shall be read as a reference to the Clerk of the Coroner's Court.".

5. The Principal Ordinance is amended as set out in the Schedule to this Ordinance.
