AN ACT to make provision for a special holiday to

celebrate the Coronation of Our Sovereign

Lady, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.

[Assented to 18th December, 1952.]

BE it enacted, by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1. This Act may be cited as the Coronation Short title.

Holiday Act, 1952.

For the purpose of celebrating the Coronation of Our Sovereign Lady, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Tuesday the second day of June, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-three shall be observed and kept throughout the State as a special holiday.

tion Act, 1912-1952, or any other Act whether or not

such Act, regulation, award, or industrial agreement

provides for certain specified days or a certain

number of days to be observed or treated as public,

bank or public service holidays, or empowers the Governor by proclamation or otherwise to proclaim, appoint or declare any day as a public, bank, or public service holiday, shall be deemed to be amended so as to provide that the special holiday provided pursuant to the provisions of this Act shall be observed or treated as a public, bank or public service holiday as the case may be without deduction of pay.

(2) A person required by his employer to work on the special holiday shall

(a)

be compensated for the work in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Act, regulation, award or industrial agreement for work on public, bank or public service holidays as the case may be; or

(b)

in the absence of any such provision, be paid for the work at the rate of double time, or at the option of the employer, have one day added to his annual leave, or if he works part only of the special holiday, shall have an equivalent number of hours to the hours so worked added to his annual leave.

4. (1) If through any change of plans for the

holiday may

be altered.

Coronation, or for any other reason deemed by him to be sufficient, the Governor is of opinion that the day specified in section two of this Act should be altered, he may by proclamation declare that the day shall not be a special holiday and may appoint another day to be a special holiday instead of that day.

(2) Where a proclamation is made under sub- section (1) of this section the day appointed in the proclamation shall be deemed to be the day to which section two of this Act refers and the provisions of this Act shall be construed and applied accordingly.
