CONVOCATION STATUTE
Citation
1. This Statute may be cited as the Convocation Statute.
Interpretation
2. In this Statute, unless the contrary intention appears:
“member” means member of Convocation;
“roll” means the Roll of Convocation kept under section 7.
Convocation Officer
3. The Vice-Chancellor must appoint an officer of the University to be Convocation Officer.
Members of Convocation
4. (1) For the purposes of paragraph 30 (1) (d) of the Act, each holder of a certificate that is referred to in the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates Rules is a member.
(2) For the purposes of paragraph 30 (1) (e) of the Act, each person referred to in the Convocation Rules is a member.
(3) The Council may admit as an additional member any person who:
(a) has served the University; or
(b) is, in the opinion of the Council, otherwise suitable for membership of Convocation.
Loss of qualification
5. A member does not cease to be a member by reason only of his or her ceasing to hold the qualification by reason of which he or she became a member.
Resignation of membership
6. (1) A member may resign his or her membership by notifying the Convocation Officer, in writing, accordingly.
(2) A person who resigns as a member may resume his or her membership of Convocation by notifying the Convocation Officer, in writing, accordingly.
Roll
7. (1) The Convocation Officer must keep a Roll of Convocation.
(2) The Roll must contain the names and addresses of members.
(3) The Convocation Officer may, on the basis of information available to him or her:
(a) determine the address to be placed on the roll when a member’s name is first entered on the Roll;
(b) change the address as circumstances change.
(4) If a member gives notice in writing to the Convocation Officer of a change in the member’s address the Convocation Officer must alter the address contained on the Roll accordingly.
(5) The Convocation Officer may remove from the Roll the name and address of a member who has died.
Rules
8. The Council may make rules in relation to the membership, functions, meetings and officers of Convocation.
Repeal
9. The Convocation Statute, as amended and in force immediately before the commencement of this Statute, is repealed.
