IIEREAS it is expedient to amend the Convicts Prevention Preamble.

'VV Act, 1865-Be it therefore Xmcted, by the Governor-in-

Chief of the Province of South Australia by and with thc advice

and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Asacmbly of

the said Province, in this present Parliament assembled, as follows:

1. The master of any ship or vcssel arriving at any port of or Mader of ~ h i p t a

until he shall have obtained from the Chmmissioner of Police. or some person to be appointed by him a certificate in respect of each passenger respectively, that the said mastcr has p~ored to the sntis- faction of the said Commissioner of Police or pcrson so appointed that the passenger in respect of whom such certificate is granted, is not a prisoner of the Crown, or runnvny convict, or a colivict coming under cover of any conditional pardon, ticket-of-leave, or in- dulgence of any kind, other than a free pardon, or remission of his or her sentence by Her Majesty, by reason of which he or she would be at liberty to residc in any part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, or a person who lilzs been convicted of any offence, and whose sentence has not expired for a greater period than three years; and any master who sliall permit or suffer any pas-

senger to land, previous to obtaining such certificate, shall be liable
