CONSUMER AFFAIRS (PRODUCT INFORMATION) regulations

Regulations under the Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading Act

1Citation

These Regulations may be cited as the Consumer Affairs (Product Information) Regulations.

2Interpretation

A reference to a law of a State in these Regulations is a reference to the law as in force at the commencement of these Regulations.

3Application
  • (1)

    These Regulations apply to the following domestic electrical appliances:

    refrigerators

    refrigerator-freezers

    freezers

    refrigerative air conditioners

    dishwashers

    clothes dryers

    washing machines.

  • (2)

    These regulations do not apply to goods that have been used prior to sale except where such use has been only for testing or demonstration purposes.

4Product information to be given

The product information standard prescribed in relation to the goods referred to in regulation 3 is the information relating to energy consumption and energy efficiency of those goods.

5Deemed compliance

The requirements of regulation 4 are deemed to have been complied with if the goods in question are labelled in accordance with the relevant provisions of:

  • (a)

    the State Energy Commission (Energy Efficiency Labelling) Regulation 1987 made under the State Electricity Commission Act 1958 of the Parliament of the State of Victoria;

  • (b)

    the Electrical Products Regulation 1990 made under the Electrical Products Act 1988 of the Parliament of the State of South Australia,

or a corresponding law of any other State.
