AN ACT to amend the Constitution Acts Amendment

Act, 1931.

this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of

the same, as follows:—

Short title. 1.

This Act may be cited as the Constitution Acts Amend- ment Act, 1931, Amendment Act, 1934, and shall be read as one with the Constitution Acts Amendment Act, 1931 (No. 11 of 1931), hereinafter referred to as the principal Act.

New section. 2. A section is inserted in the principal Act, after section

four, as follows:—

Provision for

variation in	4A. (1.) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary
amount of re-

duction of rates	contained in section four or in the Schedule to this Act,
of salary.	the persons hereinafter mentioned shall, as from and in- cluding the first day of January, one thousand nine hun- dred and thirty-five, be exempt from the provisions of section four of this Act to the extent only hereinafter specified, that is to say :-

(a) In the case of the person holding the office of Private Secretary to the Governor, the rate of salary of such person shall be reduced only by the sum of forty-two pounds per annum;

(b) In the case of the Chief Justice and the Puisne Judges of the Supreme Court, the rate of salary shall be reduced in relation to the first five hun- dred pounds, and to the remainder of the rate of salary in excess of five hundred pounds taken separately in accordance with the following pro- visions, that is to say:—

(i)    in respect of the first five hundred pounds of the rate of salary the amount of the reduction shall, be the sum of fifty-four pounds ten shil- lings; and

(ii)    in respect of the remainder of the rate of salary in excess of five hundred pounds the amount of the reduction shall be a sum equivalent to twenty-two pounds ten shillings per centum of such remainder.

(2.) The amount of the reductions provided -for under this section shall be distributed equally over the periodical payments of salary by which the salary is paid during the year in respect whereof it is payable.

3. Section five of the principal Act is amended by deleting Amendment

the words "thirty-four" and inserting in lien thereof the of

words "thirty-five."
