An Act to Amend the Constitution of Queensland THE CO:!STITUTION by further Amending" The Constitution Act ACT AMENDMENT ACT OF Amendment Act of 1896," and" The Officials 1944. in ParliamentAct of 1896," in certain particulars. [ASSENTED TO 27TH NOVEMBER, 1944.] B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :- Short title. 1. (1.) Section4(l). (i.) (a) In subsection one of section four the words "six hundred and fifty" where they twice occur, are repealed, and the words" eight hundred and fifty" are * 60 V. CONSTIITUTION.. 65 1944. Oonstitution Act Amendment Act. inserted in lieu thereof; also the words" eight hundred and fifty" are repealed and the words "one thousand two hundred and fifty" are inserted in lieu thereof. (b) An additional proviso is added to the said subsection one, as follows :- " Provided further that the two members of the Legis- lative Assembly who for the time being are respectively recognised as the Government Whip, and the Opposition Whip shall, in lieu of such payment at the rate of eight hundred and fifty pounds per annum, each be entitled to such payment at the rate of nine hundred and fifty pounds per annum and in addition thereto the aforesaid allowances." (ii.) In Schedule I., the figures" 1150 " are repealed Schedule I. and the figures" 1500" are inserted in lieu thereof; also the figures " 850" are repealed and the figures " 1100 " are inserted in lieu thereof. 3. *" The Officials in Parliament Acts, 1896 to 1942," Repeal and are hereby amended by repealing section six thereof and ~ g~f~ .' k~~ 3. by inserting the following section six in lieu of such repealed section, namely :- "[6.] The salary of such one of the Officers by this Salaries of Act declared capable of being elected members of the Ministers. Legislative Assembly as the Governor appoints to the Office of Premier and Chief Secretary of Queensland shall be two thousand pounds per annum and the salary of each of the remaining such Officers shall be one thousand five hundred pounds per annum: Provided that one of such Officers, to be designated by the Governor in that behalf, may receive a further salary of three hundred pounds per annum. For the payment of such salaries a sum, amounting in all to fifteen thousand eight hundred pounds per annum, shall be charged upon and paid to His Majesty out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State." 4. This Act applies as well to members of this Application present Legislative Assembly as to the members of of Act. every Legislative Assembly hereafter to be summoned and chosen. * 60 V.
