Acting PremierThe object of this Regulation is to authorise certain activities of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) and Sydney Paralympic Organising Committee Limited (SPOC) for the purposes of the Commonwealth Trade Practices Act 1974 and the Competition Code of New South Wales. Things that are so authorised are to be disregarded in deciding whether a person has contravened Part IV of the Commonwealth Act (which also forms part of the NSW Code). This Regulation is made under sections 38 (the general regulation-making

This Regulation is the Competition Policy Reform (New South
Wales) Amendment (SOCOG and SPOC) Regulation 1998.
2 Amendment of Competition Policy
Regulation 1996 The Competition Policy Reform (New South Wales) Regulation
1996 is amended as set out in Schedule 1 .

[1] Clause 3 Definitions
Insert in alphabetical order in clause 3 ( 1 ) :
Games means the Paralympic Games to be held in
Sydney in the month of October in the year 2000.
SOCOG means the Sydney Organising Committee for
the Olympic Games constituted by the Sydney
Organising Committee for the Olympic Games Act 1993.
SPOC means Sydney Paralympic Organising Committee
Limited (ACN 066 669 509).

Insert after clause 5:
6 Authorisations—SOCOG and SPOC
( 1 ) The following conduct is specifically authorised by this Regulation for the purposes of the Commonwealth Act and the Competition Code:
(a) the conduct of the parties in entering into any agreement to which either SOCOG or SPOC is a party, being an agreement relating to or in connection with the Games, (b) the conduct of the parties in performing any such agreement and any matter or thing done or omitted to be done by any of the parties in performing any such agreement. ( 2 ) An agreement referred to in subclause (1) may include (but is not limited to) an agreement under which either SOCOG or SPOC grants sponsorship or licence rights or rights relating to the manufacture, distribution, marketing or sale of goods or services associated with the Games. (3) In this clause agreement includes a contract, arrangement or
understanding.
