REGULATIONS UNDER THE COMPENSATION (COMMONWEALTH EMPLOYEES) ACT 1971.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Compensation (Commonwealth Employees) Act 1971.

COMPENSATION (REMUNERATION AND ALLOWANCES) REGULATIONS

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Compensation (Remuneration and Allowances) Regulations.

Definition.

2. In these Regulations, “the Act” means the Compensation (Commonwealth Employees) Act 1971.

Remuneration.

3. In respect of any period of office before the thirty-first day of December, 1971—

(a) the salary payable to the Commissioner is Fourteen thousand seven hundred and twenty-seven dollars per year; and

(b) the remuneration payable to a person constituting a Compensation Tribunal, being a person appointed for a period of not less than one year, is Seventeen thousand one hundred and seventy-two dollars per year.

Travelling allowances.

4.—(1.) Subject to regulation 6 of these Regulations, where the Commissioner is necessarily absent from Canberra overnight, or a person constituting a Compensation Tribunal is necessarily absent from his head-quarters overnight, in the course of performing his duties, travelling allowance is payable to him in respect of the period of absence at the rate of Twenty-one dollars per day.

(2.) Travelling allowance payable under this regulation is in addition to, and does not include, the cost of conveyance.

Other allowances payable while in Australia.

5. Subject to the next succeeding regulation, the Commissioner or a person constituting a Compensation Tribunal is entitled to be paid such allowances, other than travelling allowance, as would be payable to him under the Public Service Regulations, as in force from time to time, if he were an officer of the Public Service of the Commonwealth and were included in the Second Division.

Allowances payable while outside Australia.

6.—(1.) Where the Commissioner or a person constituting a Compensation Tribunal performs duties outside Australia and theTerritories of the Commonwealth, he is entitled to be paid such allowances as he would be entitled to be paid if he were an officer of the Public Service of the Commonwealth and were included in the Second Division.

(2.) Where the Commissioner or a person constituting a Compensation Tribunal is entitled to be paid travelling allowance in respect of a period under sub-regulation (1.) of this regulation, he is not entitled to be paid travelling allowance in respect of that period under regulation 4 of these Regulations.
