This regulation may be cited as the Community Services (Aborigines) and Other Legislation Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 2000 . ˙ Commencement 2. Parts 2 and 3 commence on the day after the commencement of the Community Services Legislation Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 2000 . PART 2—AMENDMENT OF COMMUNITY SERVICES (ABORIGINES) REGULATION 1998 ˙ Regulation amended in pt 2 3. This regulation amends the CommunityServices(Aborigines)Regulation 1998 . ˙ Insertion of new pt 2, div 4 4. After section 15— insert — ´ ‘ Division 4—Provisions for Mapoon Aboriginal Council area ˙ ‘ Purpose of div 4 ‘ 15A.(1) This division is to provide for the implementation of the Mapoon Aboriginal Council area. ‘ (2) If an express provision of this division is inconsistent with another provision of this regulation, the express provision of this division prevails.

s5 3 s5 Community Services (Aborigines) and Other No. 9, 2000 Legislation Amendment (No. 1) ˙ ‘ Establishment of Mapoon Aboriginal Council and its first election ‘ 15B.(1) The Mapoon Aboriginal Council is established for the Mapoon Aboriginal Council area. ‘ (2) The first election for the Mapoon Aboriginal Council is to be held on 25 March 2000. ‘ (3) The chief executive must pay the cost of the returning officer and the election. ˙ ‘ Interim council clerk ‘ 15C.(1) The Minister may, by gazette notice, appoint a person to be the interim council clerk for the Mapoon Aboriginal Council area. ‘ (2) The interim council clerk must perform the functions, and may exercise the powers, of the clerk of Mapoon Aboriginal Council. ‘ (3) However, until the conclusion of the first election, the interim council clerk must exercise only the powers necessary or convenient for the first election. ˙ ‘ Budget to 30 June 2000 ‘ 15D.(1) The interim council clerk of Mapoon Aboriginal Council must, at the council’s first meeting after the first election, present to the council a proposed budget for the period from the conclusion of the first election to 30 June 2000 (the “remaining period” ). ‘ (2) By 30 April 2000, the council must adopt a budget for the remaining period. ‘ (3) Section 48 does not apply to the interim council clerk.’. ˙ Amendment of sch 1A (Declaration of council areas) 5. Schedule 1A, after entry for Lockhart River Aboriginal Council area— insert —

PART 3—AMENDMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT (AREAS) REGULATION 1995 ˙ Regulation amended in pt 3 6. This regulation amends the LocalGovernment(Areas)Regulation1995 . ˙ Amendment of sch 1 (Information about local governments) 7.
